Notes:

¹ The translation for this is literally “show window”, but it is also the Japanese name for ‘De Wallen,’ the largest and best-known red-light district in Amsterdam.  ‘De Wallen’ consists of a network of alleys containing approximately three hundred tiny one-room cabins rented by prostitutes who offer their sexual services from behind a window or glass door, typically illuminated with red lights.  Hence, the meaning of this double entendre is obvious from the context.

² The translation is “poison,” but I feel that it is actually a metaphor for “semen” or “ejaculate.”  The entire song conveys a sense that a girl (I presume to be Alice) is being made to have sex with a man that she does not wish to, hence the song title ‘Misery’ as well as the

various other lines that are sung in the song indicating her torment.
